Virginia Wade

Sarah Virginia Wade (born the July 10th 1945 with Bournemouth, England), is a player of British Tennis , the last of its country to be itself imposed into simple in one of the four tournaments of the Grand Slam.

It began its career in the Années 1960, becoming Professionnel it as of 1970. Until 1979, it made without interruption left the ten best players of the world.

Virginia Wade gained thirty-two tournaments into simple over the circuit WTA, of which the US Open in 1968, the Internationaux of Australia in 1972 and, in front of its public, Wimbledon in 1977.

Highly skilled player of double, it also took down four Major at the sides of Margaret Smith; with the latter, it carries out the Small slam in 1973.

It was withdrawn from the competition in 1986, with more than forty years.

In 2005, the American journalists of Tennis Magazine elected Virginia Wade with the 38e row of the " forty great champions of Tennis of these forty last années" (men & women confused), behind Gustavo Kuerten (37e) and in front of Patrick Rafter (39e).

Virginia Wade is member of the International Tennis Hall off Famed since 1989.
