Virgin Trains
Virgin Trains is a British Railway company , subsidiary of the group Virgin, founded by Richard Branson, diversified group (music, distribution, drinks, air transport…). Created at the time of the Privatization of the British railroads (ex Br, British Railways), it gained two Concession S of services travellers of the type broad outlines (Intercity): the West Coast Hand Line and Cross-country race Country. These concessions expire in April 2012. The exploited network represents 3733 km, with normal way, partly electrified in alternative course 25 Kv, 50Hz.
West Coast Line Hand
This line is exploited by West Coast Trains Ltd. It ensures of the services at the beginning of the station of Euston London in direction of the west of the Midlands, the North-West and the north of the Wales, and Scotland. Given rhythm services connect London to Birmingham all the 30 min, and every hour towards Manchester, Liverpool and Preston. Virgin heavily invested to bring into service on these service roads, as from August 2002, of the pendular trains derived from FIAT ETR 470 Pendolino Italian, ready to circulate to 225 km/h.February 24th, 2007, occurs a derailment on the line Glasgow/London making a death and a score of casualties.
Country cross-country race
Exploited by another subsidiary company, Cross-country race Country Ltd Trains., they ensures of the service long distance between the Scotland, the North-West and the North-East of the England towards the South and South-east, via the Midlands. The rolling stock of this “frankness” was entirely renewed. Virgin brought into service oars motorized “to travel” and “super to travel” respectively comprising 4 and 5 cars and ready to roll to 200 km/h. Super type the “to travel” has the pendulation.
