Virgin Plums

Virgin Prunes is the name of a group rock'n'roll Irish mythical.

Founded with the mid- 1977 with Dublin, it were a time considered as “the rock'n'roll group most openly subversive” (Mark Pr endergast, “Irish Rock”). It built their reputation on scenic services and their extreme and outrageux looks. Guggi the fair one raising superb a iroquois and a dress of woman, and a rather attractive music indicate an unquestionable taste for a controlled madness, an attempt to join again with a kind of childish naivety. During their first years, they concentrated on the concerts, primarily in Dublin.

At the end of the Years 1970, they started to have ambition and are reflected to leave the discs. First simple fate in 1980, and their most prolific period extended over the years 1981-82. It left in particular the project “has off New Form Beauty”, a more accessible album “Yew I Die I Die” followed, four months after, of a box vinyl 10" “Heresy” at the French label pioneer “Invitation with the Suicide”.

Their musical production at that time was described by Claude Bessy like “large eight infernal passing by the most malevolent moments of Throbbing Gristle and strong amounts of dissonant experiments in the style of the Stooges.”

As from 1983, the group was affected by their important planning of rounds and the departure of influential members of the group, as well as the difficult childbirth of their second album, Sons Find Devils , more esthetics. 1985 see the exit of a video retrospective (titrated Sons Find Devils , although without relationship with the album Sons Find Devils to be left) and of an album of scarcities ( Over the Rainbow ).

The group left in round, and left the album only during the summer 1986, under the final title of “The Moon Looked Down and Laughed”.

Gavin Friday, leader of the group (the brown one) at that time, left this one in November 1986, which sealed its disappearance. This one was confirmed by a short comment on the small pocket of an album recorded in public, “The Hidden Lie”, left in 1987.

Gavin Friday then left several projects, only or, of which most known contains its duets with Bono of U2, for the original soundtrack of the film In the name off the Father groups some. The two groups were indeed always very close although the music and the approach of Virgin Prunes are much more ambitious and extreme. The brother of Guggi, the other singer of the group during the first period, is the young boy who is reproduced on three of the small pockets of discs of U2.

Other members of the group will leave later some discs under the name " The Prunes".
