Virgil Grissom
Virgil Ivan Grissom known as " Gus" Grissom is a American Astronaute born the April 3rd 1926 and deceased the January 27th 1967.
Biography
Virgil Grissom belongs to the first group of 7 astronauts selected for the Programme Mercury.He will die tragically at the time of a drive on the ground, in the fire of the capsule Apollo 1.
Flights carried out
- suborbital Flight on board Mercury 4, the July 21st 1961.
- the March 23rd 1965, he is commander on board Gemini 3, first manned flight of the Gemini capsule.
Others
Its memory was honoured by the astronaut David Scott, who deposited a commemorative plaque on the moon, and by attribution with its name to a Martian formation.
