Viracocha

Viracocha is the principal god of the Incas, creative god, king of the lightning and the storms. He is sometimes represented as an old man wearing a beard (symbol of the god of water), a long dress and transporting a bag.

Also spelled Huiracocha , Wiracocha or Wiraqocha , he in the beginning was adored by the first inhabitants of the Peru and he was integrated relatively recently into the the Pantheon INCA, probably under the emperor Viracocha INCA (death in 1438), who took the name of the god.

Before Viracocha, the world was dark. Viracocha created the sun to which it ordered to rise behind a black rock, the island of the sun which emerged from the Lac Titicaca. It created also the Moon and stars. Then, Viracocha created the tribes of the the Andes, which left the caves, of the sources in the middle of their respective territory. It allotted to them with each one a costume, a language and traditions.
