Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval (October 14th, 1917 - February 5th, 1967) is a famous artist Chile enne, better known under the name of Violeta Parra , which reinvented the music Folk of its country into important its influence apart from the borders of Chile. It was born in San Carlos, in the area of Chillan, in the south of Chile, of a father professor of music, and of a country mother, but who played of the Guitare and sang.
At nine years, Violeta starts to be interested in the guitar and the song, and composes its first songs at the twelve years age. It makes studies of professor at the Teacher training school of Santiago of Chile. At the same time, it starts to occur in small rooms.
In 1938, it marries Luis Cereceda, of which it will have two children: Isabel and Angel, which will be directed later them also towards a musical and artistic career. Violeta separates from her husband in 1948.
It remarie later with Shines Arce with which it has two girls: Carmen Luisa and Rosita Clara.
From 1952, advised by his/her brother Nicanor Parra, it traverses Chile by recording and noting the folksongs and traditional of its country. This voyage makes him at the same time become aware of the musical richness of Chile.
It composes of the songs, and carries out tapestries and sculptures with " what it can trouver" , randomly of its creative mood.
In 1954, Violeta Parra is invited in Poland with his/her children Isabel and Angel, visit with them the Soviet Union and Europe. It is established during two years in France, where it records its first discs of traditional music, and of personal compositions (including two songs interpreted in French). During this voyage, she learns death from her daughter Rosita Clara, deceased 28 days after her departure.
She meets European artists and intellectuals, then goes back to Chile, where she will expose her tapestries a little later.
In 1961, it starts a round with his/her children Isabel and Angel, in Finland, the USSR, Germany, Italy and France, where it settles in Paris for three years. She occurs with Isabel and Angel in rooms of the Latin Quarter, and passes sometimes in radio programs. She exposes her tapestries in 1964 to the Pavillon of Marsan. She becomes the first South American one individually to expose her works to the Museum of Louvre.
She meets the musicologist and Swiss antropologist Gilbert Favré, which becomes the love of its life, and to which she will dedicate some of her most known love songs (" Corazón Maldito" , " El Gavilán, Gavilán" , " That He Sacado idiot Quererte" , inter alia).
In 1965, she travels in Suisse, then goes back to Chile. She installs a big top in the suburbs of Santiago, to make a Center of Arts of it, supported by her children and other artists like Patricio Manns, Rolando Alarcón and Víctor Jara, but without managing to justify or interest the general public. She records new discs. She travels to Bolivia in 1966, gives a series in concerts to the South of Chile, then goes back to Santiago to continue her artistic work in the Center of Arts, where she will write her last songs.
Its relation with Gilbert Favré, who leaves in Bolivia in 1966 (where he will be cofounder of the musical group " Los Jairas"), (this personal drama finishes inspiring it for one of its most known songs, " Run Run Fue Pa' L Norte").
She records then what would be her last disc, with many known compositions: " Gracias in Vida" , " Volver has los 17" , " Rin del Angelito" , " Pupila de Águila" , " Cantores That Reflexionan" and " El Albertío" .
February 5th, 1967, to the fifty years age, and after several missed attempts, Violeta Parra puts an end to its days.
Its most known song is Gracias in Vida (Thank you with the life), popularized in the USA by Joan Baez, Maria Dolores Pradera and also by Mercedes Sosa.
