Vineyard of the valley of the Rhone
The vineyards of the valley of the Rhone extend from Vienna in North until Arles in the South. The vineyards are divided into two areas:
- Coasts of the septentrional Rhone (of Vienna to Valence)
- Coasts of the Rhone méridonial (of Montélimar to Arles)
The annual production is on average of 3,5 million hectolitres (465 million bottles) and comes from 7000 exploitations, whose average surface is of 10 ha. Only 2000 of these exploitations are particular cellars; the others are gathered in Coopérative S.
Name Côtes-du-Rhône, created by a decree of 1937 is distributed on 44.000 hectares of six departments (the Rhone, the Loire, Vaucluse, Drome, Ardèche and Gard)
Name “Coast-of-Rhone-villages”, created by a decree of 1966, relates to 95 communes of the geographical surface of the Drome, of the Vaucluse, the Gard and the Ardèche.
