the vineyard of the Medoc is a vast territory delimited in the area of the Médoc, energy of the Jalle de Blanquefort (in the north of the agglomeration of Bordeaux) until the Pointe of Low register, and of the Estuaire of the Gironde to the Forêt of the Moors).

The area itself is divided into 2 sectors:

  • High Medoc in the south of the area
  • Low Medoc in the north of the area.

The qualifiers high and low are determined by the direction of the current of the Gironde.

Two official classifications exist for the wines of the Medoc: on the one hand the historical classification bench in 1855, which gathers the red wines and the marrowy ones of Sauternes and Barsac; and in addition a classification more recent, dating initially from 1932 but punctually revised, the middle-class believed of the Medoc devoted to the red wines only.
