Vineyard of Volnay

Geographical location

Name Volnay (Communal AOC of Burgundy) is located at the south-west of Beaune in the department of Coast-in Or. Volnay name belongs to the Coast of Beaune. Volnay is a small village which counts 300 inhabitants for about fifty wine exploitations.

Surface of production

It extends on 215 hectares including 115 hectares classified in First Vintages. Its characteristic is that 29 hectares located on the commune of Meursault (climate: " Santenots") can claim with Volnay name First Vintage if the type of vine used is of black Pinot. 34 climates are classified in First Vintage. The name of Volnay name can be followed either of First Vintage or the name of the climate of origin or the one and other, or of the only name of the climate for the wines coming from pieces not classified in first vintage.

Wine making

Volnay is vinified only out of red wine.

Type of vines

Only the black Pinot is authorized.

10 to 25 years according to the years.

16 with 18°C are the good temperature to taste and consume the wines of Burgundy.
