History
Pediment counts among oldest Vignoble S. They are the Romans who planted the first stock S on the grounds dominating the valley of the Tarn. At the 12th century, with the protection of the Pope Calixte II come in 1119 to devote the church, the vineyard is the property of the Knights of the Ordre of Jean Saint of Jerusalem, later Ordre of Malta.
The Order built the village around the church Saint-Jean-Baptist, built on the site of the current church. The pious donations flow and the Order creates in Fronton a Commanderie directed by a tutor. This tutor resides at Fronton and is the lord. The village is built with the shelter of the ditches and the ramparts, and the life is organized under the protection of the Château seigneurial. In 1400, the commandery is removed and Pediment concerns directly large the Prieuré of Toulouse.
The life of Pediment is marked by the wars of religion, the stays of troops, meteorology and exceptionally, Fronton accommodates an important character: Philippe '' Beautiful the '', Charles IX, his cousin the future Henri IV, Louis XIII which touches the patients of the scrofula in 1632…
At the 16th century, the importance of Pediment decrease because the attacks of the Protesting S are fatal for him. Concerns very ground with ground furnish the hours and the days: latent wars of religion until in 1628, passages and dreaded stays of troops, meteorology and the Plague, the market and harvests, the daily Bread, the Corn and the Wine.
The fame of the wines reaches its apogee only at the 18th century: the protectionism from which the wines of Gironde profit ends and the wines can be exported via Bordeaux towards the whole Europe. This beautiful prosperity does not resist at the end of the 19th century to the Phylloxéra. Thanks to the tough efforts of generations of Vine grower S, the Vin S of Pediment find their noble letters by obtaining in 1975 the Appellation of controlled origin.
