Vineyard of Margaux
The vineyard of Margaux is located in the Bordelais. Classified AOC by the decree of the August 10th 1954 (modified by that of March 24th, 1998), it covers a surface of approximately 1423 hectares (in 2005) for an average production of 62.700 hl. It is vastest of communal names of the Medoc. It is located more precisely at forty kilometers in the north of Bordeaux on left bank of the the Gironde. It extends on the communes from Margaux, Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac and Labarde. The whole of the grounds forms a band of 6km length on a dispatcher maximum of 3km. The vines are established on beautiful croups of low registers of the Quaternaire from 10 to 24 m of altitude.
Encépagement for the AOC Margaux is that required for name Médoc, therefore Cabernet-sauvignon, frank Cabernet, Carménère, Merlot, Petit verdot and Malbec. The wines of Margaux are vinified only in red. The White Pavillon of the Margaux Castle is marketed under Bordeaux name
The maximum Rendement authorized with the Hectare is of 45 hl / ha, for an output stop of 66 hl/ha. The Densité of plantation must be 6500 to 10.000 pieds/ha.
Margaux name gathers 21 vintages out of the 60 vintages of the Medoc according to the official Classification of the wines of Bordeaux of 1855, of which a first vintage: Castle Margaux.
The Vin S of Margaux are known for their aptitude for ageing but they are characterized by their delicacy and their flexibility.
Great wines of Margaux
Margaux name gathers with 21 castles the greatest number of classified vintages of the Medoc. The commune of Margaux new account vintages, Cantenac has nine vintages, Labarde has two vintages and Arsac has only one classified vintage.
Margaux also announces by its great number of believed middle-class, of which much are of excellent level, comparable or higher than some believed classified. Among those one can quote the Château Labegorce-Zédé and the Château Siran.
