Vincenzo Galilei (Santa Maria has Monte, about 1520 - Florence, July 2nd, 1591) is a Musicien Italy N which was Luthier, Compositeur, theorist of the Musique, Chanteur and professor of music.
It is also the father of Galileo (in French, its name is often francized in Vincent Galileo , as for its son Galileo Galilei which he wanted to see becoming doctor).
In 1562, he marries wife Giulia degli Ammannati in Pisa.
About 1563, lutist of reputation, noticed by Giovanni of' Bardi, count de Vernio, it leaves to study the theory with Venice near Gioseffo Zarlino.
February 15th, 1564, birth of the first from its six or seven children: Galileo Galilei (the future Galileo astronomer), in Pisa.
About 1572, it meets, in Rome, Girolamo Mei, humanistic Florentin, who devotes to a thorough study old Greek music.
In 1572, It leaves to Florence, is established there and its family joined it in 1574; he becomes member of the Camerata Bardi , under the aegis of Giovanni of' Bardi, and which gathers in particular Girolamo Mei, the type-setters Giulio Caccini, Piero Strozzi and Jacopo Peri, the poet Ottavio Rinuccini.
Vincenzo Galilei published a great number of partitions for Luth, and of books of musical theory. It showed in particular that the length of the cords is connected to the octave. It proved that the report/ratio of tension was of 4/1 (and not of 2/1, as it was thought).
In 1581, it makes publish the Dialogo di Vincentio Galilei Nobile Fiorentino beyond musica antica, and moderna at Giorgio Marescotti, first of the printers of music in Florence.
In 1582, it illustrates its Dialogo by composing on the Lamentations of the prophet Jérémie and on the lamentations of the count Ugolin of the Hell of Dante (disappeared musics).
In 1584, it publishes in Florence, at Giorgio Marescotti, a Livre of counterpoint to two votes (Contrapunti has 2 v.). Stillman Drake supposes that these musical experiments were carried out in 1588, while his/her famous son lived with him - and thus, that this last could have helped his/her father to carry out them.
July 2nd, 1591, it is buried in Florence in the family vault which is in the nave of Santa Croce.
