Vincenzo Coronelli
Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (born the August 16th 1650 with Venice - died the December 9th 1718, in the same city) was a monk franciscain Italy N Cartographe, Cosmographe, manufacturer of spheres and Encyclopédiste.
Biography
Coronelli is a monk Franciscain and doctor in Théologie with the Collegium San Bonaventura in Rome. These are the spheres that it created which made its fame. In 1678, Coronelli creates two spheres for the Duc of Parma. These spheres had a diameter of 175 cm and were delicately carried out. The Cardinal of Estrées, ambassador French of Louis XIV at the court of Rome places order of 2 spheres to him, to offer them to the king. Coronelli settles then with Paris in 1681, where it will reside two years. Realized of 1681 to 1683, these two spheres, one terrestrial and the other celestial one measure 382 cm in diameter and weigh approximately 2 tons each one.

- celestial sphere: it represents the state of the sky to the birth of Louis XIV. Painted and enluminé by Jean-Baptiste Crow, are represented there the constellations in the form of animals fantastic, the stars and the planets, the whole in a camaieu of blue.
These spheres, known as Earths of Coronelli or spheres of Marly, belong to the collections of the National library of France and after a presentation during the inauguration of the Large palace renovated in October 2005, they joined in 2006, the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand.
In the years which follow its stay to Paris, Coronelli works in various European countries, going back in a permanent way to Venice only in 1705. It founds then there the first geographical company, the Argonauti of degli of Cosmografica de Accademia . It also held the position of cosmographer of the Republic of Venice.
The first six volumes of the Biblioteca Universale Sacro-Profaned were published by Coronelli. It is the first Encyclopédie ordered alphabetically.
Coronelli dies at the 68 years age in Venice, with hundreds of charts to its credit. Some of the original spheres of Coronelli are localized today in the national library of Austria and the library of the Benedictine abbey Stift Melk in Austria. Two specimens preserved well of spheres of sky and ground going back to 1688 and 1693, are with the library of the town of Trier in Germany.
The International Company of Coronelli for the Study of the Earths , founded in 1952 with Vienna, is named in its honor.
