Vincent Scotto , born the April 21st 1876 with Marseilles, and deceased the November 15th 1952 with Paris, was a Compositeur French.

He began as singer in Marseilles in 1906 while being accompanied with the guitar. One of its very first compositions was adapted by Christiné to become a success of Polin: Small Tonkinoise . Extremely of this reputation, it went up to Paris. It was the beginning of a plethoric production and quality, like: I have two loves , Prosper , the Trumpet of wood , Marinella , More the Beautiful Tango of the world , Under the bridges of Paris .

Tino Rossi owes him a great number of its successes.

Vincent Scotto is not only the author of 4  000 songs. One owes him also 60 Opérette S, interpreted by Alibert, Paulette Merval, Marcel Merkès… The series of the “Marseilles operettas”, on booklets of Sarvil (in particular One of Canebière ), made much to spread in Paris, if not in the whole world, a certain image of Marseilles and Southerners, sometimes caricatural.

Its current popularity is as due to the many musics as it composed for the cinema. One does not count less than 200 films to his credit, of which those of his/her friend Marcel Pagnol. This last entrusted even the title role in to him Jofroi in 1934.

He died in Paris, at the 76 years, one year age before the creation of his last work, the Lovers of Venice , with the Théâtre Mogador.

A Prix Vincent Scotto is decreed every year by SACEM to reward a type-setter for song.
