Vimines is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

History

The procession of Vimines-Saint Cassin probably saw the first combat of Gallic against the army of Hannibal which crossed the Alps in 218 av. J. - C. to conquer Italy. The horses and the elephants had large difficulties as Polybe underlines it: " the passage, indeed, not only narrow and rocky, but was still escarpé. ". The Gallic ones of the basin of Chambéry and the oppidum of Saint-Saturnin benefitted from the disorder to plunder the column. Hannibal fought them skilfully then destroyed them in the plain. That enabled him to put the hand on vivres and cattle which ensured two to three days of supply but the army had to rest one day whole to recover its forces.
