Vilppula

Vilppula ( Filpula in Swedish) is a municipality mid-west of the Finland. It is located in the area Pirkanmaa and the province of Western Finland.

History

The economic development of the common date of the Years 1860. Several industrial centers settle a few kilometres from distance in what is then the commune of Ruovesi. In 1912, it quasi totality of industries of Ruovesi is gathered in a new commune which takes the name of Vilppula.

In 1922, the principal industrial center (paper and textile) becomes in its autonomous turn under the name of Mänttä. The commune will preserve an industrial calling however, mainly around the Bois, of metal and construction materials in general. The commune increases by twice during second half of the 20th century, in 1954 with the fastening of the village of Kuoreniemi, and in 1973 with the fastening of most of the commune of Pohjaslahti.

Today, the common sorrow to diversify its economy beyond the die wood, and loses inhabitants in an alarming way.

Geography

The majority of the population is concentrated in the administrative center, the principal industrial center. It is located at just 9km center of the town of Mänttä.

The remainder of the commune is very largely forester, not producing less than 600.000 cubic meters of wood each year. A second significant borough, Kolho, gather approximately 1.000 inhabitants around a factory, to 15 km in the north of Vilppula-center. The common one counts 12 other villages, rather hamlets.
