Vilmos Zsigmond is a Chef American operator of Hungarian origin born the June 16th 1930 with Szeged (Hungary). Collaborator of realizers like Robert Altman, Jerry Schatzberg, Steven Spielberg or Brian de Palma, it is one of the operators chiefs emblematic of the “Nouvel Hollywood”.

Career

At the time of its studies of Cinema to the Academy of Arts of the Theater and Cinema of Budapest, Vilmos Zsigmond meets László Kovács, with which he will film the events of the Insurrection of Budapest in 1956. They then flee both unit towards the the United States. They settle then with Los Angeles, where they work as technicians and Photographe S in a laboratory of photography.

Starting from 1963, Zsigmond works on many films with small budget or of school, seeking opportunity of entering to Hollywood. It takes sometimes the name of " William Zsigmond". The first American film on which he works is The Sadist , with Arch Hall, Jr.

Vilmos Zsigmond receives a Oscar for best photography in 1978 for Rencontre of the third type and a price for the whole of its career in 1999 decreed by the American Society off Cinematographers (ASC).
