Villetaneuse
Villetaneuse is a common French, located in the department of the Seine-Saint-Denis and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants is called Villetaneusien () S.
History
Origin of the name
Villetaneuse is mentioned in the following forms: Villa Tineosa about 1120; Villa Teignosa in 1209; Villa Teigneuse in 1313; Villa Scabiosa XVe century; City Tigneuse 1470; City-taneuse 1517.The name of the commune seems derived from Villa Clay crusher Dared , place where one treats the tan (bark of chene or alder ground) in order to be able to tan the skins, or of Villa stagnosa (field of the ponds).
Origins
The first mention of Villetaneuse is attested towards 1120, of Ricardus de Villatenosa . The stronghold of Villetaneuse concerns then at the same time the lord of Montmorency and the Abbot of Saint-DenisAt the beginning of the 15th century, the Collégiale Saint Martin's day de Montmorency has vines with Villetaneuse, as well as rights of taxable quota.
With 16th and 17th century, the lords of Villetaneuse are royal officers, like Jean of the Fish pond, lawyer at the Parliament in 1650, Julien Chauveau, prosecutor at the Parliament in 1588…
An act of 1613 indicates that Anne Robert, lawyer at the Parliament, lord of Villetaneuse, live Paris, and Jacques Doublet, monks with Saint Denis, exchange their reciprocal seigneuriaux rights that they possèdents to Pierrefitte and Villetaneuse.
In 1658, Villetaneuse is set up in county, also gathering Briche and Épinay.
The parish Saint-Liphard is created at the 13th century.
As of 1463, it is mentioned the quarries stone with plaster of Villetaneuse, which constitutes, with agriculture, the main wealth of Villetaneuse. In 1783, the general lieutenant of police force sanctions carriers who explotent the stone with plaster without authorization.
A castle be reproduced on the charts of Old mode, such as the Chart of Huntings reproduced on the side, castle that the Abbé Lebeuf describes as follows: “ the castle, accompanied by two houses, was surrounded ditches at funds of tank, covered stone, and full of water; the closed park of walls in which there are a coppice and high futaye, which was cut since, plus 277 arpens of ground, meadows and vines, as well on the territory of Villetaneuse as on that of Pierrefitte. It appears that the source which fills the ditches with this castle is in the same ditches. This source runs out then in the river of Crould (sic), a little before this one is thrown in the the Seine ”, but, in 1825, the chart of Mayor indicates that it does not remain any more of the castle but the Park .
In 1883, the old enclosure of the castle, which remained surrounded of the ditches that Lebeuf had described, became the seat of a laundry, said Blanchisserie of the Castle of Villetaneuse . The Municipal council protested, in November 1885, against the disadvantages which could result, from the point of view of healthiness, the water of detergent, in charge of various ingredients, poured in the Ru of Rouillon by this “wash-house” and claimed the cleansing of Ru, since this point until the limit of the communal territory.
It is the origin of the current zone of activity of Villetaneuse.

From 1850 to 1960
At 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the market-gardening activity prevails, but the careers of stones with Plâtre are very present in the buttresses of the Ridge-Finch.
The old church
If it is known that a parish dedicated to Saint-Liohard exists since the 13th century with Villetaneuse, the first known church is it to us by the description of the Lebeuf Abbot and seems to date from first half of the 18th century. It was a simple vault, glaze of a painted skirting laid out in the shape of vault, and equipped with a small tower. Its owner, holy Liphard was represented there as an abbot, vêtu of white, with a dragon or a snake with his feet. The building rose opposite the castle, beside the cemetery, and consequently, enough far from the center of rural borough: it was more the vault of the castle of the church of the parish.According to the registers of the Municipal council, the mayor almost exposed to the Council on May 20th, 1850 that “ the church insufficient, unhealthy and in very bad condition, is located in an isolated and marshy place, with a kilometer of the commune”, and that it was essential to rebuild it. The Council lined up in this opinion and expressed its preferences from the point of view of the site, for the property of the sior Perrin (Alexandre) to the angle formed by the street of March 19th, 1962 and the street Roger Salengro, site which then constituted the southern entry of the borough.
This site, indeed, was adopted, but several years only afterwards, and following much of gropings for the adoption of an estimate which appeared always too high. A decree of June 27th, 1855 authorized finally the commune: 1° to be acquired of the lady widowed Perrin, born Fauveau, and of the sior Miller (François), with the help of 8.400 francs, the ground and the buildings where would be high the new church, and later on a presbytery; 2° to be alienated with the public biddings, on the setting at price of 11.200 francs, the presbytery and materials of the old church .
The building work lasted three years; finally, the total account of the expenditure, amount with 54.170,46 F., was approved on October 17th, 1858 ! number |----- | Chiefs of industry | 9 |- | Bankers, tradesmen | 20 |----- | Clerks or employed | 24 |- | Agricultural workmen, days laborer… | 81 |----- | Workmen, days laborer… of factories | 127 |- | Workmen, days laborer… of small industry | 46 |----- | Liberal professions | 4 |- | Owners and shareholders |114 |----- | Unknown professions | 1 |}
The common one then counts three stone quarries with Plâtre, employing on the whole 150 workmen, a factory of " fiber chamois" (50 workmen) and a factory of manure (10 workmen).
Inter-war period
Between the two wars, small suburban zones are created, with the variation of the old borough. They are inhabited by workmen of Saint-Denis, a big number of gas of the factory of Gennevilliers or the railwaymen of the Dépôt of Joncherolles, created in 1932 by the Compagnie of the railroads of North to accommodate its Locomotive S with vapor of suburbs. With the beginning of the year thirty, if agriculture remains important, the economic activity of the commune is mainly assured by the following companies:
- Workshop of the Nobel Frenchwoman , new denomination of the Industrial society of the Celluloid , which exploited its company of products in Celluloïd with the site of the current BienVenu shopping mall and employed 300 people
- the Linge Azure , another company of celluloid close that to the Nobel on the avenue of Leclerc Division, employing 20 paid
- the career S Cruvellier (20 carriers) and Vieujot (20 paid)
- With the site of the old castle, the tanneries of Villetaneuse (20 paid) and a deposit of material and tools, the Scémia or Sémia (20 paid) and the French company of transformation metallurgical (20 paid).
On the whole, these are 400 employment which exists with the beginning of the year thirty in Villetaneuse, occupied for the majority by people not living the commune
The creation of the Northern Paris University
“ In 1966, the minister of education Main road and the General delegation of the District of the Paris region launched a contest of ideas to two degrees for “an installation of the plain of Villetaneuse-Mourning-Montmagny comprising a university unit)}. The program of the contest insisted particulièreement - one undoubtedly sought already to avoid the errors of Nanterre - on the need for finding a composition supporting a common utiliisation of public equipment and academics of any nature. At the conclusion of the judgment of the second degree, the team Adrien Fainsilber - Hogna Sigurdardottir obtained the first price while being fixed for objective to make university an basic element and dynamics of the urban structure and not a fortress closed again on itself and isolated from the remainder of the city” (Gerard Négréanu). This project, put in brackets during several years, was taken again in January 1970, undoubtedly like a consequence of the events of May 1968, with the absolute objective to open a first section of the campus as of November 1970 and the surplus of the center of studies litéraires and legal (CELJ) with the re-entry 1971, with the help of a drastic reduction of the program and size of the campus, from now on reduced to a score of hectares located at the center the commune of Villetaneuse, whereas the project put at the contest was to extend on more than 300 hectares distributed on the communes of Mourning-the-Bars, Montmagny and Villetaneuse.
The elements of accompaniment of the project were also reduced, since the RER envisaged by SDRIF of 1965, then the prolongation of the Ligne 13 of the subway of Paris (by the SDRIF of 1975) were never realized, either besides that the multiple highway projects which were to serve the North-West of the Seine-Saint-Denis.
Project of town university, undoubtedly comparable in its spirit with what was carried out with Orsay, Bore-hole-on-Yvette… for the Université Paris XI, was carried out in Villetaneuse only the university, without its university residences, and with only one university canteen, the College library, a covered gymnasium (the COSEC), as well as a city HLM, the Allende city, initially intended to accommodate the personnel of state education in particular and other public agents.
The architects thus had only two months to draw the first buildings, produced in heavy concrete prefabrication, but the first re-entry of the campus took place with the re-entry 1970 well…
The Faculty of Science, initially called scientific and politechnic Center (CSP) was built in 1974. Today called Institute Galileo , it profited from an extension conceived by Jean Tribel. Within the framework of an emergency plan were built towards 1990 of new lecture theaters for the CELJ, in order to accompany the growth by the number of students. The large hood was transformed into forum, which constitutes from now on the true heart of the campus.
The campus, designed in a coherent way to extend beyond the communal territory and to renew the urbanization, with the mode of the new cities that have it built then, thus constituted only one enclave placed at the center of the city, insulating its districts North and South.
Until the startup of the Tram' there (discounted at the end of 2011), the University and the city are served only by the Gare of Épinay-Villetaneuse, which in spite of its name, is with nearly one kilometer of the city.
The years 1980 - 2005
August 1st Since 1975, Jean Renaudie studied the restoration of Villetaneuse, in order to make it possible on the one hand to remove old stone unhealthy environments with plaster of the old borough and to bind the City to the University. That was done in two times:
- in 1982 and 1986 were built the buildings known as " soleil" or " RHI" , on the site of the old center of the borough. These 262 residences HLM included/understood a residence for elderly as well as trade, which were never dynamic.
- in 1992 began the realization of the ZAC of the Center Town, which is completed in 2007. Were thus built the new Town hall, many social public services, 48 social rental houses, 36 houses grouped in accession, two social university residences and approximately 400 rental residences.
The demolition of the old town hall marked the beginning of the decline of the district which intourait it, the greatest part had been designed by Jean renaudie and his school, requiring the development of a project of officially agreed urban renewal with ANRU in 2007.
Parallel to these operations of residences, the Commune, then, later, Plaine Commune developed the zone of activity of Villetaneuse around its core, the zone of the Castle. The SNCF benefitted from its unutilised influences of the Dépôt of Joncherolles (vacant since the end of traction vapor) to create a workshop of great dimension allowing the maintenance of the oars of suburbs, and the Municipality managed to obtain the creation of the BienVenu shopping mall (around the Continent ensign, then Auchan) in the extreme south of the City, on influences which the State had exproprié about 1966 and which had remained little employed, if it is not by nuisantes activities.
As from 2004 finally the reorganization began from the Allende City, studied since 1990, and which allowed the rehabilitation fraught with 283 residences, the demolition of 5 of the 14 buildings in order to dédensifier and to open the city on its district while organizing its relations with the university which is next to it and by preparing the arrival of the tram Tram' there. Two streets were opened on this occasion.
2006-2015: The University project and Urbain, the ANRU and transport
The next years will be devoted to the implementation of the project of officially agreed urban renewal with ANRU relating to the northern district of Villetaneuse, and which relates mainly to the buildings designed by Jean Renaudie: they all will be rehabilitated, but the commune will use the whole of spaces in ground floor to establish services to with it with dominant social, and one of the small islands will be transformed into condominium. An operation of relaunching commercial of proximity will be committed. This operation serat realized by a whole of partners and operators like SA HLM the Sand pit, the OPAC Plaine Commune Habitat, the Flat EPA of France, promoter DCF, etcThe implementation of the university and urban project will continue, with in particular construction, undoubtedly for the re-entry 2009, of two equipment of the Université financed within the framework of the Plan contract State-area 2000-2006: extension of the College library and that of its gymnasium. At the same time should be carried out the first section of the scientific and technological Center of IUFM of the Academy of Creteil, acuellement lodged with the College of the ENNA with Saint-Denis. An about sixty rental residences will be built between the Allende City and the Swimming pool to complete this district of habitat.
In addition, the building site of the Tram' should there start in 2008, then that of the crossing of the ways of the Large-Girdles within the framework of the creation of the Tangentielle North and that of the station of Villetaneuse-University
