Villeneuve-in-Chevrie is a common French located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called Villeneuvois.

Geography

The commune of Villeneuve-in-Chevrie is in the North-West of Yvelines not far from the limit of the Département of the Eure, with approximately 20 kilometers in the west of Mantes-the-Pretty and with approximately seven kilometers in the south-west of the Bonnières-on-Seine, the chief town of canton.

The territory extends in the western part of the agricultural plate of the Mantois, between 130 and 140 meters of altitude, light inclined towards the North-East. This plate is notched a little by some ravines drained by small tributary brooks of the the Seine, like the Ru of Saulots in the north of the village.

This relatively wide territory, nearly 1200 hectares, is primarily rural (91  %), wooded at approximately 15%, mainly in the south-east and the North-East of the commune, on the fringes of the Forest of Rosny.

The habitat is grouped in the village located at the center of the territory, but one counts also hamlets and farms dispersed in the north and the south of the commune.

The communes bordering are Jeufosse in north, the Bonnières-on-Seine in the east, Saint-Illiers-the-City in the south, Lommoye in south-west, Limekiln-the-Bonnières in the west and Blaru in the North-West.

In the plan of the communications, the commune is crossed in the East-West direction by two road main roads, the Autoroute of Normandy and the Trunk road 13 which divide the territory in two literally and cross in the west of the commune to the exchanger known as of Limekiln-the-Bonnières. The local relations are ensured by the secondary road 89 (Bréval - Port-Villez) directed North-South and the secondary road 37 which cross just in the south of the commune.

A Path of great excursion, the GR. 26 follows the northern limit of the commune in the wood of the Rocket.

History

The site is occupied since the time of the polished stone, one found there in the fields of the prehistoric flint tools.

Since January 1st 2006, the commune is adherent Communauté of communes of the plate of Lommoye, the president of this one being the mayor of Villeneuve-in-Chevrie.

Culture

  • Saint Nicolas's Day Church: church of massive architecture dating from XVe century, with bell-tower in the shape of reinforced square tower of buttresses in the angles. A stone statue of XIIIe century representing the Virgin with the Child preserved in the church is protected like historic building since 1908. A statue of Nicolas saint decorates the principal frontage.
  • Old windmill of the XVIIIe century, of which there remains a cylindrical apparent stone tower.
  • Castle of Gastine (XIXe century).
