History

Origin of the name: of Latin villa mummole meaning “field of mummole” (approximately year 800). The primitive site of Villemomble takes its roots in a marshy valley, formed by an old arm of the Marne and delimited by the “Mountain of Avron”. Not far from the ancient hamlet the Forêt extends from Bondy. Very early the way located in edge of the Plate of Avron, current Main street, holds place of royal way and it is starting from this axis that constitutes itself, little by little, the hamlet.

The first seigniory is set up at the time of Dagobert {{Ier}}. Primarily agricultural village it depends, as from the 7th century and until the Révolution, of the abbey of Livry. Towards 1215, Jean 1st of Beaumont, large chambrier of Louis {{Romanian|VIII}} and Louis {{Romanian|IX}}, becomes lord of the village. After the Guerre One hundred Year old the field belongs to Gaspard Bureau, large Master of artillery, then in Antoine de Chabannes adviser of Louis {{Romanian|XI}} . Five seigneuriaux castles attested on the territory of the commune testify to the constant presence of influential characters. The Duke of Orleans and Misses the Marquis make the beautiful days of Villemomble starting from 1767 and make build the current castle (old Town hall). At the 19th century, the city is a required residence and vacation resort which maintains its agricultural vocation all while growing rich by many trade associations.
