Villedieu-the-Stoves (to pronounce //) is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.
Villedieu-the-stoves is twinned with Horn-Bad-Meinberg, in Germany, Jersey with the the United Kingdom, and the district of Miraflores to the Peru.
The inhabitants of Villedieu-the-Stoves are called: the Sourdins or the Théopolitains .

History
Soil pertaining at the origin with the
Abbey - with-Ladies of
Caen, there did not exist parish of Villedieu before the 12th century (towards
1130). Villedieu was then part of the parish of
Saultchevreuil called
Siennestre .
Villedieu was then given by Henri Ier Beauclerc to the knight S Hospitalier S of Saint-Jean-of-Jerusalem, military Ordre and monk known today under the name of Ordre of Malta. The latter kept an always sharp contact with the city Norman by taking part every four years in the Grand Sacring , name which the Corpus Christi carries in Villedieu. The city then is entirely decorated and of many knights of Malta are accommodated there.
