the church of Villeconin

Within the pretty framework of a place flowered and broadside of trees, the church St Aubin, typical of the rural churches of the area, reveals two times of different constructions inside: XIIe and XVe centuries. The church was built on the level of the original ground, that of the bed of the river. Alluvia having raised the level of the place, it is necessary today to descend some steps to penetrate in the church.

The church of Villeconin is placed under the term of Saint Aubin (469-554), originating in Vannes, which became monk, then abbot of Tincillac (between Angers and Saumur) and finally bishop of Angers. This saint man véhémentement fought the franque tradition of the marriages between brothers and sisters.

The secondary owner of the parish is Saint Thibault de Marly, which was abbot of Vaux of Cernay.

Outside, one can admire the large windows of ogival style blazing, the gate rebirth, the openwork bell-tower of small Romance windows and three couples of long lancéolées openings, provided with louver, hiding a bell gone back to 1604.

The bedside comprises three fenestrations year the gothic arch, most important, in the center, illuminant the chorus. On the northern frontage, five fenestrations in pleun clotheshanger inform the spans of bottom with dimensions. The western frontage is composed, like the bedside, of three principal parts. The central part includes/understands a beautiful blazing fenestration, surmounting the principal gate in handle of basket whose arc ends in a floret. The stained glass of the frontage, is located at the bottom of the chorus, represents Christ surrounded by St Pierre and St Paul. The southern frontage comprises the bell-tower, the turret of the staircase of access, the sacristy and the side, datable gate of the end of XVe, and whose porch has a very beautiful rafter frame pointing out the shape of a reversed vessel. The interior of the church is composed of a nave with three spans, a chorus and a sanctuary, flanked of two symmetrical sides finished by two vaults of Holy Joseph and the Blessed Virgin. A balustrade out of wooden carved rebirth separates the chorus from the vaults. The vaults of the chorus and the nave are high (10,70m) and give a dash which two blazing fenestrations accentuate.

The eight heavy squat pillars are of varied form: rounds, squares, hexagonal, rectangular, heptagonal. columns applied to these pillars spring beams of veins characteristic of XVe which give the date of reconstitution of the church. In the wall of the vault of the Virgin a fragment of white marble plank is, remains of a tomb carrying the armorial bearings of the family of Rotrou. One can also admire the pulpit to be preached carved in oak (XVIIe), the baptismal font (XVIIIe), of the tables representing Sainte Marie Madeleine and Saint Roch, two statues in carved oak of Aubin Saint and Saint Thibault, as well as a reliquary in the shape of bust of bishop containing of the relics of Aubin Saint.

the castle of Villeconin It was built in 1388 for Jean de Montagu, superintendent with finances, lord of Marcoussis. The buildings of simple and somewhat austere architecture are organized around a central court, and are encircled ditches. Inside, one can admire the very beautiful room of Montagu and his splendid frame in warheads. The keep of the Barn orders the small valley known as of the Valley-Pasquier, with dimensions of Souzy, and dominates of the other all the valley of the Vixen.
