Village-Nine
Village-Nine is a common department of the Haut-Rhin, in the area Alsace, in France, located at approximately 27 km in the south-east of Mulhouse. Its inhabitants is called the Villageneuvois .
Geography
Located in edge of the the Rhine, there even where occurs the Grand channel of Alsace and where the Palmrain was built, Pont connecting the south of the Département of Haut-Rhin to the Pays of Bade, Village-Nine is in the middle of the Région of the Three Borders, with 3 kilometers of Basle in Suisse and with less than 10 kilometers of Lörrach in Germany.This exceptional geographical location is consolidated by the proximity of important highway infrastructures (A35 French side and A5 German side), air (airport of Basle-Mulhouse), railway (Basle-Strasbourg line) and harbor (Rhenish Port of Huningue).
Part of the territory of Village-Nine is also a Natural reserve: the Natural reserve of the small Alsatian Camargue
History
In 1684, a royal decree (after the fastening of the Alsace in France by the Treated of Westphalia), imposes the transfer of the village of Large Huningue towards old a island of the the Rhine baptized initially “New Borough of Aoust” then in 1704, “Village-Nine”.
Culture

Until the end of the Sixties, the traditional and dominant activity was the market-gardening production whose more than 60% towards Basle within the framework of a free-Switzerland convention of 1938 which granted the benefit, in some is currently exported limiting, of the exemption from customs duties for the local products exported on the market bâlois. The coexistence of these new industrial activities and the traditional market-gardening activities constitutes the major asset of Village-Nine for the present and especially for the future. The maintenance of vast market-gardening spaces in the agglomeration even of its periphery where is also the Natural reserve of the small Alsatian Camargue, works the local framework of life and attracts a population which seeks to be established in a preserved environment, in the vicinity however industrial urban centres.
