Villa Majorelle
The Villa Majorelle is a house of Master, located at Nancy in the style École of Nancy. It is a showpiece of the Architecture, with the gasoline even of the movement of the Art nouveau French.
Context
In 1898, the cabinetmaker Louis Majorelle employed Henri Sauvage, a young Parisian architect, for a collaboration with Lucien Weissenburger on the construction of its own house, known like the Villa Jika (according to the acronym of the name of young girl of the woman of Majorelle) but more commonly called Villa Majorelle, in Nancy. Majorelle, like many industrialists of Nancy, placed its villa on the street of its company but in a relatively new zone of the city, on a great plot of land whose fitting makes it resemble a true city. This house and this company were located on the ground which was given to them by his/her mother-in-law, Mrs Kretz.
Structure
The design of the villa on the three floors, by Savage and Weissenburger, represents the example of the deployment of architecture Art nouveau in Nancy, with several windows in half-circles and of the floral reasons covering outsides. Majorelle produced itself the ironwork as well as interior furniture, the skirtings or the majestic staircase. Louis Majorelle chooses to install its studio on the third floor of the villa, under the roof with pinions with a sumptuous picture window arched with the forms evoking the branches of a tree.Architecture wants to be light, luminous and asymmetrical. The interior presents, in the mediums of vast decorated volumes floral reasons evoking parce example the Monnaie-du-pape, if expensive in École of Nancy, topic taken again on certain stained glasses of the Villa drawn by Jacques Gruber. Paintings of the dining room are the work of Francis the Jordan and Henri Royer for the remainder of the planks. A monumental ceramics chimney created by Alexandre Bigot throne proudly in the center of the dining room.
The Majorelle Villa is visited in partnership with the Musée of the School of Nancy.
