Vila C Cop
Vila C Cop is a Portuguese Ville of the District of Oporto, Northern Région and under-area Grande Oporto, of 25.731 inhabitants, in 2003. Vila C Cop is the seat of a Ville of 149.31 km ² of surface and sheltering 74.391 inhabitants (2001), subdivided into 30 Paroisse S. the Ville is limited to North by the town of Póvoa de Varzim, to the east by the town of Vila Nova de Famalicão and the town of Trofa, in the south by the town of Maia and by Matosinhos and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean.
Located on northern bank of the Rio Ave, Vila C Cop is an important industrial center, fishing port and also zone balneal and tourist, having one of the principal and more snuffed balneal centers of the country. The city belongs to the same urban agglomerate as Póvoa de Varzim.
History
The population of Vila C Cop is very old, former to the foundation of Portugal, and the toponimy of the city did not subbît deteriorations, being already known under the name of Vila C Cop. The first reference to the city dates from year 953 in the book of the countess Mumadona Dias where the city is described under the name of Villa C Committee .D. Sancho I fell in love with D. Maria Pais, taking it along with him until the field is in the possession of its beloved. His/her back-back-small daughter, D. Teresa Martins and her husband, illegitimate Afonso Sanches, wire of D. Dinis, founded the Real Mosteira de Santa Clara, '' the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara '' in 1318.
D. Manuel I conceded the seigniory with the population in 1516 and this one took an active part in the Great Discoveries portuguaises, of which enter other Paulo and Francisco Faria the voyage of Vasco de Gama in India. Inheritance
