Viktor Lutze

Viktor Lutze , December 28th, 1890 1 - May 2nd, 1943 1 was an officer ( Obergruppenführer ) of the SA of which it took the command after the Nuit of the Long Knives

It engages in the German army in 1912 and fights during the First World War, during which it loses its left eye. It leaves the army in 1919 with the rank of officer.

It is affiliated with the Nazi party since 1922 and joined SA the following year.

In the sides of other nationalist militants like Albert Leo Schlageter, it takes part in Ruhrkampf, the armed struggle against the Belgian troops and Frenchwomen who occupy the the Ruhr following the delay brought by the Weimar Republic to pay the repairs imposed on Germany by the Traité of Versailles.

In 1928, it is named SA Oberfhürer for the Ruhr, and in 1390, it is elected appointed with the Reichstag. Its career progresses within SA: in 1933 it is promoted SA Obergruppenführer and organizes with Hanover terror with regard to the political opponents. After the accession of the Nazis to the capacity, it reaches the post of head of the police force of Hanover, then, on March 25th, 1933 1 with that of Oberpräsident of the Prussian province of Hanover.

After the assassination of Ernst Röhm at the time of the Night of the long knives, Viktor Lutze succeeds to him as a chief of staff of SA, in particular to reward it to have brought back the seditious remarks of Röhm with Rudolf Hess then to the general Walther von Reichenau. Lutze directs SA marginalized to the profit of the S and which lost any independence and any political influence.

In November 1938, under the orders of Lutze, SA makes proof, for the last time, of capacity to make reign terror by taking share with the Pogrom S against the Jewish population of Germany at the time of the Nuit of crystal.

In April 1941, with its request, it is discharged from its function of Oberpräsident .

It finds death in a road accident close to Potsdam, on May 2nd, 1943 1. The theory according to which its vehicle would have been sabotaged is supported by any source.

Its funeral takes place with the chancellery of Reich, in the presence of Adolf Hitler which decrees Deutsche to him Orden on a purely posthumous basis on May 7th, 1943.
