Vigneux-of-Brittany

Vigneux-of-Brittany is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.
The inhabitants of the commune are called the Vignolais and Vignolaises .
Geography
The common one counts two distinct boroughs: the borough of Vigneux of Brittany, and the borough of Paquelais.
History
About the year 840, LAMBERT, usurper of the County of Nantes, stops a few days with his troops with Paquelais.
The Happy Francoise d' Amboise remained there: a cross known as " good Duchesse" was high in remembering at the entry the borough (1868).
An act signed at the time of the bishop Benoit of Nantes (1079-1115) under the reign of Alain FERGENT, duke of Brittany (1084-1112), made gift of the stronghold of Boissière in Vigneux in the chapter of Saint-Pierre for the repurchase of the hearts of the lords.
The parish of Vigneux dates from the XIIIe century, divided in six festivities:
- Festivity of the borough: Saint Martin's day
- Festivity of Biliais Deniaud: Saint-Joseph
- Festivity of the Rock: Saint-Pierre
- Festivity of Buron: Saint-Charles
- Festivity of Jambinière: Midsummer's Day.
In 1489, the duchess Anne of Brittany remains in Paquelais a few weeks, the Maréchal of RIEUX, his tutor, prohibiting to him the entry of Nantes, it seeks to marry it of force to the lord Of ALBRET. It crosses, on this occasion the Auduc bridge, built on the Gesvres in Paquelais in 1330. It is reported that it made shoe its horses with back to mislead its prosecutors.
In 1581, the first priest of Vigneux, Jean LEGRAND settles.
In 1595, the primitive church of Vigneux is the subject of work of enlarging. During this work, the equestrian statue of Saint Martin's day is hidden in the foundations of the building. It will leave only 260 years there later.
During nearly one century (fine XVIe until the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, on October 17th 1685), the Protestantisme divides the religious community.
During the Revolution, the order was maintained in the parish by Joseph François Pink OLLIVIER, constitutional priest. But in 1793, the church of Vigneux was plundered and sold.
In 1800, the great majority of the rural houses of the commune is built at that time. They use the granite extracted the many careers vignolaises. These same careers largely contribute to work districts of Nantes.
In 1850, begin work of the Church of Paquelais.
In 1860, the church of Vigneux, going back to 1595, is demolished and rebuilt at the same place. One will then find in the excavations the equestrian statue of Saint Martin's day, owner of the parish. This statue is currently present in the porch of the church.
