Vigilante group

The vigilante groups (GAD) were back-up troops (60 000) of the French Army during the war with independence of the Algérie.

They were voluntary villagers to which the army had distributed weapons. They discharged this one from the defense of their Douar, thus releasing from manpower for the “operations of pacification” itself.
