Viducasses

The Viducasses belonged to about sixty Gallic Peuples alive as a Gaulle during his invasion by Jules César, between 58 and 51 av. J.C. The name of " Viducasses" comes from the Gallic vidu “wood” and cassi “hair”. It indicated " thus; those which have gotten mixed up hair as the branches of a arbre". The capital of the city of Viducasses was Aregenua, today the village of Vieux in the Calvados.

Viducasses occupied about the center of the current Apple-brandies, bordered in the west by the Baïocasses and the Unelles, in south-west by the Abrincates, in the east by the Lexoviens, and in the south by the Esuviens.

To the Roman Lower Empire, the city of Viducasses was attached to that of Baïocasses, which accelerated the decline of Aregenua, capital of Viducasses.
