The Vidourle ( Vidorle in Occitan) is a coastal Fleuve French of the the Cevennes of 80 km length.
It takes its source in the the Cevennes in the Département of Gard, to Saint-Novel-with-Codières in the north of the Montagne of Fage and will be thrown in the the Mediterranean, 85 kilometers further with the Grau-of-King. It is thrown precisely between Grau and the Grande Motte, known for its famous Barriers! (ref. drives the Grande Motte)
Vidourle can know spectacular risings: the vidourlades . The towns of Quissac and Sommières were particularly touched by its vidourlades the September 15th 1575, the July 3rd 1684, in October 1689, of 1st with the October 3rd 1723, the November 18th 1745, the October 6th 1812, the September 17th 1858, in 1891, the September 26th 1907, October 16th 1907, the September 27th 1933, the October 4th 1958 and the September 9th 2002 in particular.
Its flow is often low, in summer, almost dry, it is hardly impressive. Its minimal flow is 3 m ³ /seconde, the maximum one being more or less 1.500 m ³ /seconde.
N.B. : Vidourle also passes near the Towns of Gallargues-le-Montueux, Aimargues and of the Grau-of-King.
The fertility of the river represents an asset of size. For a long time Vidourle made it possible to make turn the Moulin S to Huile and Grain. It was essential to the operation of the tanneries.
Vidourle communicated forever easily with the sea and was lost a long time in a marsh with Saint-Laurent-in Aigouze then was thrown to the XIXe century in the pond of Mauguio. Today, of the artificial mouths lead it to the Mediterranean while passing not far from the Grau-of-King.
