The video is a technique of recording of images on a magnetic medium. The camera obtains the information which the video tape recorder records, and can restore on a screen named monitor. Resulting from television, the video art appeared in the United States and in Europe with the beginning of the year 1960, and influenced the large currents of the time at once, of Fluxus to the performance, the conceptual art to the minimalism and the sociological art.

In the Years 1960, Nam June Paik had the creative gesture of a new artistic current: the Video art by laying out one (large) liking on a Television. The Cathode tube reacts by creating coloured distortions and images of deformed Nixon.

In 1959, Wolf Vostell created the Darkroom collection Berlinische Galerie Berlin, assembly of materials and television sets, the first work to be used the electronic image as artistic media.
