Videau

The Videau or die lapping machine is a material used with the Backgammon and in some other board games.

Although it is in form of Dé, the videau does not launch out. It is used to indicate the value of the part who is being held. The six faces of the videau post the six first power S of 2: 2,4,8,16,32 and 64.

The videau is used in plays with two players who are played in several handles. It at the same time makes it possible to shorten and interest the parts. At the beginning of the sleeve, the value this one is of 1 point. In his turn to play, and before playing, any player can propose with his adversary to double the setting, i.e. the value of the sleeve.

If its adversary refuses, generally considering that it has few chances to carry it, the sleeve is then finished and the player who had proposed to double mark 1 point.

If its adversary agrees to double the setting, one places in front of him the videau with the marked face “2” visible. He is now owner of the videau. Thereafter, if he considers that the part turns to its advantage, he can again propose to double the setting, therefore to play for four points. There too, its adversary can refuse, in which case it loses two points immediately, or to accept, in which case he will become owner of the videau and one will play now for four points.

When the part knows many bounces, the videau can each time change side into doubling very often.

The videau is also used to persuade the adversary to give up a sleeve where it is in very bad posture. If he refuses to give up, he is then likely to lose the double of points.
