Vidal dictionary

In France, the dictionary Vidal is a work gathering the whole of the Summaries of the Characteristics of the Product of the drugs of the pharmaceutical laboratories. In this Dictionary, the drugs are sorted alphabetically. It indexes the whole of the Médicament S marketed in France. This dictionary is renewed every year.

It is only one of the information sources, certainly most known of the general public, concerning the side effects, the counter-indications, etc It exists other sources used by the professionals.

With each drug a card is associated synthesizing the Résumés Characteristics with the Product (CCP) published by AFSSAPS (French Agency of public health of the health products) like:

  • Its official designation
  • Its form
  • Its quantities of active substances
  • Its Excipient S
  • Its classification pharmacotherapeutic
  • Its references

The Vidal Dictionary whose financing is primarily ensured by the drug company for the insertion of the CCP is distributed gracefully to the doctors of the private sector and only to some department heads of the Public hospitals.

  1. BLUE Section: Alphabetical classification of the drugs by active ingredient.
  2. YELLOW Section: Classification of the drugs by pharmacotherapeutic family.
  3. RED Section: List credits exit of the official repertory of the AFSSAPS.
  4. WHITE Section: drugs gathered in monographs.
  5. Section SALMON: products of parapharmacie classified alphabetically.
  6. GREEN Section: Alphabetical repertory of the establishments of which pharmaceutical laboratories, parapharmaceutic, thermal spas…

In Belgium, the Belgian Center of pharmacotherapeutic information (CBIP) sends every month (except July-August) to the Pharmacien S (including the pharmacist-biologists) and to the potential prescribers (in human Médecine, the Médecin S and the Dentiste S; in Veterinary medicine " doctors Veterinary s"), as well as the students of last year of these disciplines, according to the case the Folia pharmacotherapeutica and/or their equivalent in veterinary medicine. They are layers of information. The CBIP publishes moreover:

  • the Repertory with accompanying notes of the drugs (RCM)
  • the Repertory with accompanying notes of the veterinary medicinal products

Published by the drug company

The AGIM (General association of the industry of the drug) (Internet site or publishes every year a compendium, collection of all the scientific notes of the pharmaceutical specilities marketing by its members (all the pharmaceutical firms of Belgium are not inevitably members of the AGIM). Since a few years, generic medicines as well as the specialities in " importation parallèle" do not appear any more in this repertory. There exists also a compendium of the veterinary medicinal products distributed to the veterinary surgeons. These two works can also be bought with the AGIM in the form of Cédérom.
