Victrice of Rouen
Victrice , Saint and bishop of Rouen - IVe and Ve century One of the first bishops of Rouen. Friend of Holy Martin. He was missionary in the Artois and the Flanders. He organized the first rural parishes in his diocese of Rouen. He increases the small sanctuary of the city in order to accommodate many relics.
Biography
Victrice was born as a Gaulle, with the borders of the borders of the Roman Empire, a few years after the Ier council of Nicée.
In its youth, it was useful in the Roman army, but, fearing the dangers of the state in which it was engaged, it solved to give up the military career. Holy Paulin, tells us that God made several miracles in order to deliver his servant. This Saint reports that the torturer who led Victrice to the torment, having put the hand on his neck, like marking the place or it was to strike, lost the sight suddenly. This accident prevented it from proceeding to its office. Victrice was renewed in prison, and god made a second miracle in his favor. One had attached to him to the hands of irons which one had tightened to the bones. He requested his guards to slacken them a little, and they transfer the chains fallen from themselves. Its guards did not dare to give them, but it ran, terrified, to tell this wonder with the intendant, who returned freedom in Victrice
One how long does not know in which place it was withdrawn, nor it passed in prayers and penitences, before being high with the episcopate towards 390. Saint Paulin saw it in Vienna in Dauphiné, and recommended itself to his prayers as with that of a man favoured of the sky and estimated holier characters of his time.
The church of Rouen, became, under Saint Victrice, a news Jerusalem, one admired there a great number of virgins worthy of Christ. Thus, the town of Rouen, which until was known little, even in the close provinces, became famous to the most moved back provinces.
It is believed that Saint Victrice died in the year 417, its tomb was the theater of miracles and the object of a great veneration.
In the middle of the IXe century, in order to protect the Holy relics from the invasions Normans, one transported them at the height Braine (close to Soissons) they will be preserved there until the French revolution. But it is only in 1865 that the Cardinal of Bonnechose, archbishop of Rouen, proceeded to the Translation of the relics of Victrice Saint.
