Victoriaville , sometimes called Victo , is a Ville Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of Arthabaska of which it is the chief town and in the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec. Origin of the name

The name of Victoriaville was given in the honor of the Reine Victoria.

Its creation

Its evolution

Victoriaville evolved/moved quickly. In 1854, the first Railroad of the Wood-Francs is established in several cities, of Richmond with Lévis while passing by Victoriaville. In 1855, the first post office arrived downtown (the Central Hotel). In 1861, the railroad extends from Victoriaville with St-Angele. One called this way the Grand Trunk (now disappeared and which became a cycle track).

In 1896, one of its famous citizens became the first French-speaking person with being appointed Prime Minister of Canada: Sir Wilfrid Bay-tree. Today, its house is converted into a large museum of the history.

August 5th, 1931, the Hôtel-Dieu hospital of Arthabaska is founded. June 20th, 1942, Victoriaville makes the blessing of the new college of the Sacred Heart. In 1965, there is foundation of the Québécois School of the Piece of furniture and Wrought Wood. In 1969, the Sacré-coeur college becomes the Cégep de Victoriaville.

Fusion

For intiative of the mayor of the town of Victoriaville of the time, in 1993, the population of the municipalities of Arthabaska, Holy-Victoire-in Arthabaska and Victoriaville was appropriate to gather downtown only one. The municipality of Saint-Christophe-in Arthabaska had also been invited to be amalgamated, but its citizens had refused.

The name Victoriaville was selected following a popular consultation which took the form of a Référendum. At this time, the city bore the name Victoriaville-Arthabaska , which was the temporary name of the new city amalgamated while waiting for the final name.
