Victoria Ocampo Aguirre (Buenos Aires, April 7th 1890 - January 27th 1979) is a écrivaine and Argentina editor. It founded in 1931 the Argentinian review " SUR" ( the South ).

It was the amante of Pierre Drieu La Rochelle of 1929 to 1931 then remained her friend. It is with it that he wrote his last letter before his suicide.

Biography

It is the elder one of a phratry of six sisters born in a rich person family of Buenos Aires. Their education was ensured by two teachers, a Frenchwoman and English, which enabled them to open with other cultures. Young person it marries a man of his medium, tempting and cultivated, but the marriage proves to be a failure.

She binds in friendship with many intellectuals, such Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), Jules Supervielle (1884-1960), Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986), Hermann von Keyserling (1880-1946). She meets Pierre Drieu La Rochelle (1893-1945) in Paris in 1929, together they visit Paris, London and Berlin. In 1931, Victoria sets out again for Argentina where it founds the review " SUR" who will publish Borges, Henri Michaux (1899-1984), André Malraux (1901-1976) and Martin Heidegger (1889-1976), but did not want to publish Drieu while saying to him You are Pierre and on this stone I will not build my church , but they will remain large friends.

After Drieu, it had like lover Roger Caillois (1913-1978). Drieu joined Victoria in Argentina where he becomes the lover of his sister Angelica Ocampo. At the time of its suicide, with the Release in 1945, he writes his last letter with Victoria: You do not know as is well my death, by one night superb, my large window open on Paris .
