Denis Victor Poelaert is a Sculpteur Belgian born with Brussels in 1820 and died in 1859 at 39 years.
He studied the sculpture with the royal Académie of the Art schools of Brussels and was pupil of Guillaume Geefs (1805-1883), sculptor of the King. He is subject to also the influence of François Rude (1784-1855), exiled in Brussels.
Victor Poelaert was a sculptor with the delicate and distinguished chisel. He was the brother of the architect Joseph Poelaert.
Among its works, Spring flowering ash the bus shelter of the grid of the medium of the Park of Brussels (bus shelter which is the work of his/her brother). He also carved into 1856 the statues of the Muses Polymnie and decorating Euterpe, in the form of Cariatide S, the door of the royal Théâtre of the Currency located street of the Queen.
One also knows to him a medallion plasters some representing the portrait of his brother-in-law Eugene van Dievoet (1804-1858), judge at the bankruptcy court of Brussels, husband of Hortense Poelaert (1815-1900).
Died young person, Victor Poelaert did not have time to develop an abundant work.
A beautiful portrait of Victor Poelaert, due to the painter Louis Tiberghien (0,40 cm X 0,29 cm), was deposited with the Files of the Town of Brussels.
