Victor Limekiln

Victor Chauffour was a Politician French, born with Colmar the March 13rd 1819, died with Paris in November 1889

It still became, extremely young, professor with the Faculty of Law of Strasbourg. Its democratic ideas were worth to him to be elected in the the Low-Rhine member of Constituent on April 23rd, 1848, whereas his/her brother Ignace (1808-1879), lawyer, was named representing Haut-Rhin in the same assembly.

It sat at the extreme left on the benches of the Mountain, and was one of the declared adversaries of the presidential policy. It continued, starting from May 13rd, 1849 with the legislative Parliament, to fight by its speeches and its votes all the proposed measures and adopted by the reactionary majority.

Forced, after the Coup d'etat of December 2nd, 1851, to give up the public life and teaching, Victor Chauffour was done industrial. One has of him:

  • Studies on the reformers of XVIe century ;
  • Of the theory and the practice in German jurisprudence , Re-examined legislation and of jurisprudence (Paris 1846);
  • Ulrich de Eutten and Zwingle (Paris, 1853,2 vol.).
