Victor-Levy Beaulieu (September 2nd 1945 with Saint-Paul-of-the-Cross, Quebec -) is a writer, Dramaturge, polemist and editor Québécois.
Biography
Born with Saint-Paul-of-the-Cross, in the area of the Low-St-Laurent (Quebec), Victor-Levy Beaulieu begins his primary studies with Three-Spray for then continuing them with Montreal-North.
He takes his first steps of public writer to the weekly magazine montréalais Perspectives where he occupies the post of chronicler during one decade (1966-1976). In 1967, he becomes journalist with the measuring rod with the newspaper the Press, the Small Newspaper, the Digest Flash, and with Maintaining in 1970. He gains the price Larousse-Hatchet 1967 thanks to a test of eighteen pages devoted to Victor Hugo.
In 1968, it spends one year to Paris, and becomes, with its return, script writer at radio CKLM with Montreal while taking again its task of chronicler. Always in 1968, it publishes its first novel Mémoires of in addition to-barrel . This first novel will be the first of a long continuation: Race of world (1969) -- harmed of Malcomm Hudd (1969)-- Jos Knowing (1970) -- the Large Fathers (1971)-- a Québécois dream (1972) -- Oh Miami Miami Miami (1973)-- Don Quichotte of unhafts (1974), to name only those published in the first part of the years '70.
Professor of literature to the National school of theater of 1972 to 1978, he is also author of many texts diffused with the radio of Radio-Canada inter alia for the emission “Documents”, “Small theater”, “Novel”, “Foliation”. He is the guest many radio programs such as “books and men”, “Notebooks Arts and Letters”, “Book-club”, “the literature in summer”, “the workshop”, “Language of my country, the novelists of our language” and for emissions on television of Radio-Canada such as “Women of today” and “French of today”.
Moreover, Victor-Levy Beaulieu contributed to the rise of works intended for the cinema but especially on television. He wrote the scenario of the film the great voyage (1975), carried out by Marcel Carrière like that of the telefilm Hamlet in Quebec . The television serials written by Victor-Levy Beaulieu know much success to the Quebec. He is the author of Race of world , television serial carried out by Maurice Falardeau and Jean-Yves Laforce in 1979-1983 as well as television serial the Heritage (1987-1990). In 1993 the television serial Montreal P.Q begins which finishes in 1996 after 86 episodes (60 minutes).
Finally, Victor-Levy Beaulieu was (and is still) a daring and innovative editor. With the Editions of the Day, where he is literary director of 1969 to 1973, he creates Québécois the Répertoire collection which he will direct towards the publication of old texts of the Québécois literary inheritance. He founds the Editions of the Dawn in 1973, the Editions VLB in 1976 of which he will yield the rights in 1985 and, in 1995, the Editions Three-Spray that he always directs.
Work
" The work of Victor-Levy Beaulieu is colossal, disproportionate; it is essential from the start by its enormous mass, increasing each year of new titles, belonging themselves to various registers of writings: dramatic novels, texts, critical and polemical tests, let us téléfeuilletons, testimonys, chronicles and even, very recently, poetries. On the purely quantitative level, it dominates the whole of the contemporary Québécois production, all confused kinds. It proceeds of an ambition undoubtedly single in the literary history of this country, of a globalisant project of writing which one does not know a équivalent" ." He testifies to the engagement of the generation of the Nouvelle Writing while putting in scene the difficulties unhafts it of a country (Quebec), of a literature, of a oeuvre".
In 2007, one indexes good about thirty novels, a score of tests and a dozen plays; as well as adaptations for television like Race of world and the Heritage , and of the television serials like Montreal P.Q and Bouscotte .
Victor-Levy Beaulieu is particularly recognized for the considerable number (and the originality) of tests related to large literary characters of the Occidental culture such: to greet Victor Hugo , 1971-- Jack Kerouac , 1972-- Mister Melville , in three volumes, 1978 -- Doctor Ferron , 1991-- Lord Leon Tolstoï , 1992 -- Mister of Voltaire , 1994 -- James Joyce, Ireland, Quebec, the words , 2006.
Several of its works were published in France and were translated into English.
