Victor-Duruy college

The college Victor Duruy with Paris is only the public lycée VIIe district. It also includes/understands a Collège. This local public corporation of teaching was created under the Second Empire.

Situation

The College and Victor-Duruy College are located at the 33, Boulevard of the Invalids, in the 7th district. It is served by the station of subway Saint-François-Xavier (line 13) and by three lines of bus: 92,82 and 87 (located street of Babylon)

History

The College made in the beginning left the field of a hotel of the Suburb German St builds between 1728 and 1731. The field was used as kitchen garden.

The hotel (current Rodin Museum) was occupied by various owners in particular the Marshal of Biron.

In 1820, the Company of the " Ladies of Crowned Cœur" , a community of teaching nuns, takes possession of the hotel of Biron and in fact a " House of Education" for the young girls.

In 1830 - 1835, a farm giving on the Rue of Babylon was built.

A new building (a convent) and two vaults were built on the old pot field between 1855 and 1860. The pupils of the house of education accepted their teaching in the new building starting from 1860 whereas a " School of the pauvres" , free, intended for the children of the district was open in the farm giving on the street of Babylon.

The law of the July 7th 1904 removing the teaching congregations, the " House of the éducation" was closed and brood it evacuated.

Artists settled before the State does not acquire the property in 1911. The old convent of the years 1855-1860 became, the October 8th 1912, the sixth college of girls of Paris as well as a boarding school. The buildings sheltered until in 1954, of the elementary classes, primary and secondary, a kindergarten and childish classes mixed in the buildings of " the ferme" , of the secondary classes in the principal building.

During the First World War, the buildings was the general headquarter of Galliéni.

In 1960, the mixed childish classes were removed. The increase in the number of pupils and lesson involved installations in particular additions girdling the park of buildings. In 1970, the college of girls became mixed.

At the end of the years 1980, the whole of the buildings of the college were renovated. The building site was completed in 1996.

Description

The park

In its center, exists a large park, single situation in the Parisian colleges. This green area is in continuity of that of the Hôtel of Biron, which shelters the Musée Rodin.

Buildings

The College and Victor-Duruy College are composed of a principal building, reserved for the college, a building of sciences, a gymnasium, three buildings reserved for the college, named " Barbet spaniel of Jouy " , " Ferme" and " Babylone".

The principal building is composed of three levels.

There has five staircases, is, B, C, D and E. Has is reserved to the users apartments of functions. The staircase E does not lead to the large hall of the ground floor and carries out directly towards the park, so that it is almost never used; it emerges in particular close to room 210 with 2nd.

There is an elevator, reserved to the personnel, which is beside the infirmary at the ground floor. The refectory is with the basement.

At the ground floor, the offices of the Headmaster, the Critic are located, of the Intendant, eight classrooms, the Information center and of information of the college and the room of the professors.

The gymnasium is located in basement, under the basketball court, between the principal building and the building of sciences. It includes/understands in mezzanine several cloakrooms and a room of the professors of physical education and sporting. In bottom, are the grounds, in addition to versatile room and of a room of tackle, as well as the room for the equipment.

The building of sciences, quasi-cubic and metal, is at the bottom of the park, beyond the gymnasium and of the basketball court.

The building " Barbet spaniel of Jouy" is reserved for the college.

The building known as of " Ferme" includes/understands the permanence of the college, the office of the Main thing-assistant, the room of music, the room of the photo club and the Information center and information of the college, in an old vault. This building is closed by a grid giving on the street of Babylon, opposite the cinema the Pagoda.

The building " Babylone" , neighbor, is composed of a ground floor and a stage. Is there the office of the Principal adviser of education of the college. There are on each level five rooms, C 001 with C 005 and C 101 with C 105. It is modern with large picture windows.

Restoration

The college was completely renovated of 1988 with 1995. The current building of sciences, on the site of old, was built in 1988 - 1989, and was brought into service in September 1989. That led, during the year 1988-1989, the pupils to have courses of sciences in the rooms of the college, then numbered from 58 to 67 and prefabricated P1 with P8. The whole of the pupils then had their other courses in the principal building, unheard of situation. In 1989-1990, the pupils of college found the rooms 58 to 67 and P1 with P8.

In 1989-1990, in fact the ground floor and the first stage of the principal building were remade, as well as the room of visual arts, current room 209. Until June 1990, the courses of drawing and visual arts were held in the old close vault, on the second floor, room 210. In 1990-1991, it is the current gymnasium which was arranged in basement. On this site, there was already surfaces a basketball court of it, with the paces of waste ground, with a building on two levels: at the ground floor, the rooms of gymnastics and tackle were, on the floor of the cloakrooms and the classrooms. This building was connected to the principal building. The old gymnasium was with the site of the current building C, reserved for the college. There was parquet floor out of wooden, and the cloakrooms strongly felt sweat there.

In 1991-1992, was set up the building C. It was the last year of prefabricated P1 with P8 and rooms 58 to 67, at the bottom of the park, beyond the alley of the chestnut trees.

In 1992-1993, new rooms, modern, were built with the site of the huts, i.e. rooms 58 to 67, which were very dark and which were heated by the ground.

In 1993-1994, it is the building known as of the Farm which was rehabilitated. It shelters in particular the room of music, in the past numbered 70, the room of permanence of the college, and the Information center and of information of the college, in an old refitted vault, which was to classrooms 68 and 69. Moreover, the Information center and of information of the college, at the ground floor, which one can see the panes of outside, boulevard, was in work this year. It found refuge in room 210, the old vault which was in the past the room of visual arts.

In 1994-1995, the park was the subject of important work, which gave place to trenches.

The language laboratory and the room of theater and projection are with the first stage, one beside the other, the latter being opposite room 109.

The college

For the college, there are six classes per level. There were seven third, until the end of the years 1990.

The College

With the college, there are ten seconds, ten first and ten final. For these the last two levels, there are two literary classes, three economic and social, four scientists and one whose nature depends on the request.

Preparatory classes

There are three preparatory classes, a hypokhâgne also preparing at the entry of the political Institutes of studies (" prépa science po"), a hypokhâgnes and a khâgne.

Languages

The languages suggested in first language are German and English, in second language German, English, Spanish, Italian and Russian, in third language Spanish, Italian, Russian and the modern Greek, like old languages Latin and the old Greek.

Administration

Current Proviseur is Mr Frizon. He succeeded in 2002 Madam Claude Chanut (1991-2002), which had taken itself the continuation of Mister Claude Mombroisse (1983-1988).

There exists an Association of the former students of the College Victor Duruy, whose seat is in the establishment. The President is Madam Frédérike Privat, which succeeded Nicette Batier, now deceased. Trésorière is Madam Any Guillaume.
