Victor-Auguste Poulain

Victor-Auguste Poulain (February 11th 1825 - July 30th 1918) is a French chocolate seller.

Born within a family from sharecroppers exerting close to Pontlevoy (Loir-et-Cher), Victor-Auguste Poulain was the 10th child. Too much weak to work with the fields, it was sent to the 6 years age at the school which it will leave as of the 9 years age to become made grocer with Bléré.

At 13 years, it left for Paris where it was engaged with the Money Mortar celebrates grocer where it in particular learned how to make Chocolat and to work it. In 1847, at the 22 years age it decided to return to the country and to open its own shop.

It is in 1848 qu ' it started to sign its products of its name. Brilliant inventor and tradesman it developed his business, yielded it in 1893. He died a few days after the end of the fire which destroyed most of the chocolate factory that he had contributed to build with Blois

March 8th, 1852 Victor-Auguste deposits a patent under the n° 13218 for a preparation of chocolate. The patent to him is allotted on April 30th of the same year for 5 years. The original file of the patent is preserved at the files of the National institute of the industrial property in Paris, one finds the receipt of this preparation there.
