Viceroy
see also: Etymology of Viceroy
The title of Vice-roi is carried by more the high representative of the King in a province or a colony. This province or colony is named a viceroyalty . A Vice-reine is a woman exerting this function (rare, because the function also includes/understands the military high command), or the woman of a Viceroy.
Etymological allusion to the King makes that it is perceived as more important than Governor-general even if in many cases it is synonymous with this administrative row.
In certain cases, the title (and the function, unless the title is not directly attached to it) are reserved to the family members reigning.
