Vice

A vice is a mechanical device which allows the “setting in position” and the “maintenance in position” (tightening) of a part.

In general, the vice is composed of a part fixes (generally related to the scheme of work: bench, table of Machine tool…), of a moving part, and a system of tightening.

It is often by a system Vis-écrou that tightening is carried out: it makes it possible to apply significant efforts while being irreversible (according to the angle). Another system rather often employed is tightening by eccentric.

  • a: Vice with staples.

    • 1: Lever of tightening.
    • 2: Head of the thumb screw.
    • 3: Subset says “mobile jaw” (comprising the mobile bit), complete guidance in translation (only one degree of freedom) on 4
    • 4: Subset says “fixed jaw” comprising the bit fixes
    • 5: Subset of fixing in the scheme of work (here by “staples”, with screw in compression: temporary complete connection)
  • b: Vice of drilling machine/milling machine
  • C: Manual vice (without subset of fixing on scheme of work)

There exist bit platers vices, whose bits slide to plate the part.

The bits can be equipped with bit soft or " mordaches" , manufactured in a tender material (wood, rubber, lead, aluminum, plastic, etc) and of which the principal goal is to avoid a deformation of the part tightened in the vice. These clamps can sometimes comprise a specific print corresponding to the particular shape of the part to maintain.
