Viazma (in Russian Вя́зьма) is a city of the Oblast de Smolensk, in Russia. It is sprinkled by the river Viazma and is halfway between the towns of Smolensk and Mojaïsk. It had: 57545 inhabitants in 2002

Viazma was often the ground of battles, in particular at the time of the Second world war or it constituted a defense against the operations in direction of Moscow.
