Viaduct of Rocherolles
The viaduct of Rocherolles is a railway Pont of the line Paris - Toulouse. It is located on the territory of the communes of Folles and Bersac-on-Rivalier in the High-Vienna, to 30 km in the north of Limoges above the Gartempe.
Built 1852 with 1854 stone cut in a blue granite to cross the valley of the Gartempe. The arrival of the train with Limoges took place in 1856. 54,60 m in height, 187 m length, it comprise 12 arches out of 2 levels. To 2.000 workmen worked on this building site. The stones were extracted from the careers surrounding, cut on the spot and assembled. At that time, the the Limousin is served by the powerful company of the P.O. (Paris-Orleans) which is at the origin of the work completed on this viaduct. It cost a million and half of gold franc. It was electrified in the Fifties. At the time of its construction, it was most of France. It is one of the most splendid works which is on the Ligne Paris-Toulouse. The line Limoges - Uzerche - Brive - Cahors - Toulouse finished in 1893.
