Viacom (1971-2005)

Viacom (abbreviation of VI deo has udio COM munication) is an American conglomerate present in the Media. The subsidiary companies of the group cover almost all the segments of the industry of the media. Viacom, based with New York, is with dimensions with NYSE.

The chairman of the board is Sumner Redstone. Redstone holds more than 70% of the rights to vote of Viacom .

It is compensated by two executive directors, Tom Freston in load of MTV Networks and Leslie Moonves in load of CBS.

New Organization

In June 2005, Viacom announced the scission of the group in two distinct companies. The new Viacom includes/understands the activities of MTV, Study Bureau and of Paramount Pictures (film production and of DVD). The chairman of this section is Philippe Dauman since September 2006 after the resignation of Tom Freston. Other side CBS Corporation, directed by Moonves, gathers the chains CBS, UPN (now The CW Television Network ), the activity broadcasting of Viacom, the edition, the production for television, as well as the parks Paramount and Showtime.

The shareholders saw themselves allotting following scission 1/2 share of the new Viacom and 1/2 action of CBS Corporation for an action of old held Viacom. Sumner Redstone will remain chairman and the principal shareholder of the two companies.
