Viña del Mar
Viña del Mar is a city close to Valparaiso, in the Région of Valparaíso to the Chile. It is located at 120 kilometers of Santiago of Chile by road 5. The city is populated of 286.931 inhabitants (census of 2002). Gentilice viñamarino. Tourist city par excellence, it is beside the industrial town of Valparaiso.
Etymology
Viña del Mar is born from the fusion of two haciendas , Las siete hermanas and Viña LED mar . In the north of the city, vines are planted and little by little the city takes the name of Viña of the mar then Viña LED mar
History
At the time of the foundation of the territory of Viña LED mar, Don Jose Francisco Vergera Echevers took possession of it. In 1855, the first trams circulate between Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. That creates an interdependence between these cities and makes it possible to build on new grounds. May 31st, 1878, the east city creates by decree of the Chilean government. The center town is the oldest place of the city, it is on the river Marga Marga which separates the city into two. Little by little the city grows, and the inhabitants are installed on the hills. In the years 1930, the town-planning envisages completely to urbanize the city from here the years 1970. The district of recreo located at the limit of Valparaiso is in urbanized first. Danta Iñes and Miraflores, districts located at the north of the commune, are urbanized about the years 1960. The district of Reñaca is easiest of the commune and wishes to become a commune with whole share. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the city is a seaside resort accommodating the easy classes. In 1929 the president Carlos Ibáñez del Campo makes build on the hill Castillo the presidential palace of summer. The casino is there also founded this year there. In 1967 is born the International festival from Viña LED mar, (festival of the song) organized each year in February.
