Vespolina

The vespolina is a Italian Cépage of black grapes. It should not be confused with the type of vine Vespaiola.

Origin and geographical distribution

It comes from the north of the Italy.

It is classified auxiliary type of vine in DOC. Boca, Colline Novaresi, Coste della Sesia, Fara, Ghemme and Sizzano.

It is classified recommended in province of Novare, Verceil and Pavia in the areas Piedmont and Lombardy. In 1998, it covered 175 ha.

Characters ampelographic

  • End of the young cottony branch blanchâtre with slightly dyed with carmine edging.
  • Young fluffy, a little bronzed sheets.

Farming aptitudes

Maturity is of third late time: 35 days after the chasselas.

Technological potential

The bunches are of size large and the bays are of intermediate size. The bunch is cylindro-conical, not very tight. The type of vine is of average strength and a regular but not very abundant fertility.

It gives wines of bright red, delicately scented and with an average alcohol level. It is generally vinified in assembly
