A road considered until the second world war as " stratégique" , still passes on the peak which overhangs the village. It is probable that in period of disorders, a halt of the Roman troops was organized on this site protected for little that the peak was protected. A communal way still bears the name of " way of Romains" , the stone apparatus is still present there. In the Eighties, an inhabitant found parts carrying the effigy of Caligula.

Currency. Vetus lucus semper virens (Its old wood is always green). The currency applies well to this village located at the foot of a wooded hill. But the Latin term " lucus" referring to a crowned wood, it is possible that the place was that of a worship in antiquity.

German military Cemetery. Located behind the church, the staircase making it possible to reach it being the bottom of the communal cemetery, this necropolis was set up by the Germans, after the French offensive of April 16th, 1917 on the Way of the Ladies. It contains 1.704 bodies (stone cross) resting in individual tombs (only 6 could not be identified). The men buried here, until October 1918, are casualties not having survived their wounds in military hospitals of countryside built in the vicinity and in particular in the church of the village which was used as infirmary by the German army. The porch of the church was destroyed besides by a bombardment at the time of controffensive allied. The place is splendid - if one can allow oneself to judge a cemetery thus - and was as follows desired: the Germans entrusted to his realization to the one their officers who did not hesitate to employ dynamite to carry out the staircases and the terraces. One finds, also in this cemetery, an imposing monument set up with the " brave men héros" 50ème division of infantry. cf will infra Monuments

The boys not having crossed the course of the military service yet were charged to decorate the village using branches and of brooms. A gantry was drawn up at the entry of the place of the ball; it carried the inscription " Honor with the anciens". The festival started with a deposit of sheaf to the war memorial by two pupils (a girl and a boy) in the name of the children of the village. The procession was taken along by a flag to the sign of " the youth of Veslud". The Way of the Ladies is close: all these symbols referred to the memory of the First World War.
