Very favorite ( One from the Heart ) is an American film of Francis Ford Coppola left in 1982.

Synopsis

Two inhabitants of Las Vegas, Hank and Frany, used a little by their life of couple, dispute and leave each one on their side. They will be found at the end of the night, after having done each one a meeting.

Disproportionate project of Coppola, produced by its new production company Zoetrope, Very favorite wants to be a large film on America, which speaks about the popular class, with a history archi used, lightings chromo, on bottom of musical imitation-comedy. But with this intention, Coppola returns very artificial to start by restoring a street of Las Vegas in studio. It imposes a unit of action and time and fact on the second degree: of place since all is completely composed in studio. Coppola also innovated in the setting in scene, since it directed practically all the catches since a control by interposed video monitors. This imbalance felt with the screen, désarçonna criticism and the public, and the film was a resounding commercial failure.

Become confidential in the catalog of films of Coppola, it however has remarkable assets, to start with an excellent interpretation and an original soundtrack been used particularly well by the compositions as Tom Waits. But what makes its principal interest is precisely the step of Coppola made possible by work of studio and concerning the colors, the light and lightings, and the way of using the decoration, its depth of field and of pushing the artifices towards new directions (p. e.g. the take-off of the plane at the end and especially, set of lightings to locate Hank and Fanny in two different places but nevertheless always in the same plan).

With its following films, Coppola gave the impression to continue technical exercises of style: after the light in Very favorite , he was exerted with the grahic composition of the image in Rusty James (of the images of a black and worked white, with some inserts encouleurs), then made Cotton Club a exercise of construction and assembly which remains in annals.
